Why was this dress made?

Years of Living Kindly (YOLK) creates 'dresses that make Asian women beautiful.' This is because we want today's women to wear the values of Asian and Japanese nature, culture, art, and 'storytelling' that traditional kimonos once held dear at important moments.

Therefore, YOLK's director writes a short story every season, along with dresses and their pattern backgrounds, stages, and the prayers and wishes contained therein. Thus, the 'dresses that play a role' like kimonos aim to cherish the formal wear of Japanese women and are made for this purpose.

How was this dress created?

When you go around the back of Kiryu Tenmangu Shrine, you'll find vividly dancing flowers and sculptures of living creatures hidden there.

This existence, like the guardian deity of the historic town, was carved by the sculptors of Nikko Toshogu Shrine. Gunma, which admires the gods dwelling in nature and living creatures, continues to live beautifully as one of the world's leading manufacturing areas. The twisting floral textile, reminiscent of sculpture, forms the soft and twisted curve dress, 'Nen Soke'. Vibrant and firm domestically produced jacquard, meticulously finished by hand, completes this shape. The three-dimensional pile on the back is a craftsmanship processed by hand.

This dress is imbued with the wish for 'vibrant vitality.' It is an offering to the wearer or the event they participate in by wearing it.

What kind of dress is this?

It has a glamorous gloss. Please wear it to attend weddings, important meals, commemorative photos, and seasonal events. It is also suitable for formal ceremonies. Due to its thick fabric, it can be worn year-round except in midwinter. If you wear it in midwinter, please layer it with lace or sheer long-sleeved tops underneath and wear it with outerwear. This is a thick dress with lining that can be worn from summer to autumn. Additionally, it is lightweight, durable, and made of material that does not wrinkle, maintaining the beauty of the silhouette, making it perfect for travel.

なぜ、このドレスは作られたのでしょうか。

Years of Living Kindly (YOLK)　では「日本の女性を美しくするドレス」を作っています。それはかつてのお着物が持っていた、日本の自然、文化、芸術、そして「物語」の価値観を、今日の日本の女性にも、大事な場面でまとってほしいと思うからです。それはきっと、お守りのような役割を果たします。大切な人の結婚式の参列、特別な食事、晴れ舞台、家族写真、季節の行事で、着てもらいたいと考えました。

そのためYOLKでは、ディレクターが短編「着物語」を毎季執筆し、ドレスやその模様の背景、舞台、そしてそこに込めた祈りや願いを、添えています。そうして、着物のような「役割」を果たすドレスを作ることで、日本の女性の正装を大切にすることを目指して作られているのが、*Years of Living Kindly (YOLK)　の「日本の女性を美しくするドレス」です。

今季の物語の舞台は、群馬です。インスピレーションは、群馬の山滴る空、自然、街、ものづくり、女工さんや工場の歴史。これを五感で感じ、すっかり魅了されてできた物語から生まれたのが、ドレスの一つが「捻草花（ひねりくさばな）」です。ゆるやかな調和と融合の地の魂を、ドレスにとり入れたいと思いました。

ブランド名である“Years of Living Kindly (YOLK)”は、私たちが考える「侘び寂び・わびさび」の英訳です。

どのように、このドレスは作られたのでしょうか。

桐生天満宮の裏にまわると、そこには隠れているのは、踊るようにいきいきとした草花や生き物の彫刻。

歴史ある街の守り神のようなその存在は、日光東照宮の彫刻家たちの技巧によって彫られました。そんな、自然や生き物に宿る神々を愛でる群馬の地は、今日も美しく生きた、世界有数のものづくりの地。彫刻のような草花の踊るテキスタイルが、やわらかくねじれた曲線のドレス、「捻草花」。職人が手で仕上げる、鮮やかでハリのある国産ジャガードが、この形状を完成させました。立体感のある裏の毛羽は、手作業によって処理されている、職人技です。

このドレスには「のびやかな生命力」の願いを込めました。それは纏う人、あるいはそれを着て参加する行事に、捧げる想いです。

これはどんなドレスなのでしょうか。

華やかな光沢があります。結婚式のご参列、大事な食事、記念の写真や、季節の行事にお使いください。フォーマルな式典でのご着用も可能です。厚地のため、真冬を除く通年ご着用可能です。もしも真冬にご着用の際には、中にレースやシースルーの長袖トップスを重ね、羽織りものとともに、ご着用ください。
夏から秋にかけてご着用いただける、裏地つきの、厚地のドレスです。また、軽量化つ丈夫で、シワにならず、シルエットの美しさを保つ素材を使っているドレスです。そのため、旅行への持参にも最適です。
